SEOUL, March 15, 2023 — Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions for commercial and defense vehicles, announced today that Daesung Water Supply recently purchased an Allison-equipped Hyundai PAVISE mid-duty truck. Daesung Water Supply has specialized in the operation of tanker trucks for water supply, watering, street cleaning and disinfection for more than 10 years in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do.

Daesung Water Supply recently purchased the five-tonne, 280-horsepower (hp) Hyundai PAVISE equipped with an Allison fully automatic transmission for irrigation and disinfection. Daesung Water Supply had operated a total of 11 manual and automated manual transmission vehicles before purchasing the PAVISE fully automatic vehicle. However, they chose Allison Automatics because of its economy, driving comfort and durability. In addition, the Power Take-Off (PTO) operates in proportion to engine speed, giving drivers more flexibility and utility. Daesung Water Supply is highly satisfied with the exceptional performance of the Allison transmission and plans to purchase more Allison-equipped PAVISE vehicles.

"To transport tap water into the city or to provide bird flu prevention and control, we often drive through narrow streets and go up and down steep slopes," said Jae-Hong Yoo, CEO of Daesung Water Supply. "Vehicles with manual or automated manual transmissions often lose their engine power when climbing steep slopes, which is very dangerous because it directly leads to accidents."

"Driving PAVISE automatic vehicles equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions is the same as driving a passenger car,” said Yoo. "When climbing a steep slope, this vehicle is very reliable because it will not stop or turn the engine off, as the driver can step on the accelerator at 100%, 70% and 50% and gradually climb up."

"Vehicles with manual or automated manual transmissions require a lot of maintenance costs, such as replacing clutches after several years of operation,” said Woo. “Allison fully automatic transmissions are durable and trouble-free, so I think they're very economical in the long run.”

In the past, Daesung Water Supply's operations staff experienced back pain and fatigue when driving a manual transmission vehicle for long periods of time. However, with a fully automatic transmission, there is no need to shift gears or to use the clutch, which increases driving comfort.

"Customers who need to operate water cannons, like Daesung Water Supply and fire stations, prefer vehicles with fully automatic transmissions because of their advantages such as quality, durability and economy," said Kyoungmee Lee, Regional Director of Allison Transmission Korea. "Allison Transmission will continue to strengthen its support for specialty customers."
