The 49-seater Longwin II XMQ6127DY coaches exported by Xiamen King Long were all equipped with Allison T390R transmission.

SHANGHAI, May 20, 2024 -Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions, and the world’s largest manufacturer of fully automatic transmissions for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, continues to deepen collaborations with Xiamen King Long, a leading Chinese bus manufacturer. In 2023, a total of 90King Long buses equipped with Allison Torqmatic®Series transmissions were put into operation throughout Saudi ArabiaincludingJeddahandMadina, and 40 buses were delivered in the second quarter to support Hajj operations in the kingdom at the end of June. The partnership offered exceptional products and after-sales service, helping Allison secure positive feedback from the Saudi government and end customers.

Hajj is a large Islamic pilgrimage taking place each year. Millions of Muslims from around the world will flock to the holy city of Makkah and Madina during the pilgrimage. As a result, bus and drivetrain operations have to navigate extraordinarily challenging conditions including a large number of people and vehicles, extensive stop-start duty-cycles on rugged mountain roads, and temperatures in excess of 40°Cand sandstorms. The 49-seater Longwin II XMQ6127DY coaches exported by Xiamen King Long were all equipped with the Allison Torqmatic Series automatic transmission with retarder (T390R), which played a crucial role in facilitating the transportation of pilgrims during Hajj season and provided exceptional comfort to numerous passengers and drivers thanks to its reliability and durability.

Relying on its T390R transmission designed specifically for coaches and buses, Allison is able to ensure excellent coach performance in any complex and challenging road conditions and achieve a maximum input torque of 1,650 newton-meters (N•m) and a maximum engine rating of 283kilowatts(kW). Equipped with Continuous Power Technology™, Allison transmissions can multiply engine torque and eliminate power interrupts during shift changes. At the same time, the transmission is equipped with an integral retarder for smooth downhill speed reduction. All these features provide a smooth and comfortable experience for both the driver and passengers, reducing travel fatigue for many pilgrims.

Allison transmissions are designed to have minimum maintenance requirements. Unlike manual and automated manual transmissions (AMTs), which are prone to wear and require clutch replacements, Allison transmissions have minimal wear and require only Allison Authorized routine filter and fluid changes to maintain optimal performance, thereby minimizing the total cost of ownership of vehicles. The transmissions are also equipped with the 6th Gen Electronic Controls platform and FuelSense®2.0. These features enable dynamic shifting based on various vehicle conditions to increase fuel economy and allow monitoring of maintenance needs with advanced prognostics to obtain higher fleet efficiency and lower operating costs.

“Allison is committed to helping customers improve fleet performance with its unrivaled combination of product quality, reliability, durability, industry value,  and customer service, and this shipment of Xiamen King Long buses to Saudi Arabia is a testament to our commitment,” said David Wu, Managing Director, China Sales at Allison Transmission. “Allison and King Long’s long-standing partnership has fostered a strong mutual understanding and trust. We look forward to continuing this partnership providing reliable, valued products and solutions to the world.”

Allison’s Torqmatic®Series is a line of fully automatic transmissions specifically designed for the unique demands of city and suburban buses and tour coaches with engine ratings up to 410 kW. With up to six forward speeds and one reverse, the Torqmatic®Series is designed for easy, efficient operation.

Thanks to more than 100 years of relentless innovation and decades of experience in China and overseas markets, Allison transmissions have become integral components of commercial vehicles including passenger buses. As Chinese OEMs continue to expand their reach globally, Allison is well-positioned to offer comprehensive support with its highly reliable products and its vast network of authorized distributors and dealers around the world.
