Allison 6000 Off Road Series™ Transmissions Help LGMG Win Overseas Markets for Wide Body Mining Dump Trucks

SHANGHAI, October 17, 2023 - Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions for commercial and defense vehicles, is pleased to announce that its long-term partner Lingong Heavy Machinery Co. Ltd. (LGMG) will deliver more than 20 GVW 136T wide body mining dump trucks (RT90) equipped with Allison 6620 Off Road Series (ORS)™ transmissions to international customers by the end of 2023 for local ore transportation.

Allison 6000 Off Road Series transmissions are highly regarded in the mining industry worldwide for their unrivalled performance, quality, durability and reliability.

"Allison Transmission has never let us down. In terms of technological maturity and cost of ownership, Allison transmissions feature low failure rates, exceptional durability, cutting-edge performance and reliable quality," said Bingjian Zhao, Vice President, Overseas Business, LGMG. "LGMG mining trucks with Allison transmissions can work longer and more efficiently in even the harshest working conditions, making them highly popular and sought-after among customers in mines."

The LGMG GVW 136T wide body mining dump truck is powered by the Weichai WP17TG770E304 engine with a rated power of 566 kilowatts and a maximum torque of 3000 newton-meters. The model has a maximum load capacity of 90 tons, a top speed of over 40 km/h, and the ability to climb inclines greater than 30 degrees. This is the first time LGMG has used an Allison automatic transmission on the larger 136T platform, which enables the vehicle to perform smooth full-throttle, high-torque starts and automatically and intelligently shift gears in response to changes in road conditions and gradients, eliminating problems typical of manual transmissions such as insufficient starting power under heavy loads and difficulty in shifting gears under complex uphill conditions. During loading and unloading, the driver can control the vehicle with greater precision thanks to the creep function. The combination of a hydraulic torque converter and a wet clutch increases the vehicle's dependability, while the integrated hydraulic retarder provides the vehicle with additional braking force, thereby minimizing the overall braking load and wear, and extending tire life as well.

For enhanced reliability and durability, the Allison 6620 ORS transmission features robust diagnostics that allow the driver to monitor the transmission's status in real time. Shift energy management protects the transmission clutch, lessens shift shock and minimizes vehicle stuttering. This not only extends service intervals and reduces transmission maintenance costs, but also improves driver comfort.

"We are delighted to have a long-standing and collaborative relationship with LGMG," said Kartik Ramanan, Executive Director, Global Off-Highway, Customer Support & Service Engineering, Allison Transmission. "Allison and LGMG share a similar vision regarding quality-based product positioning and global expansion strategies. Together, we look forward to expanding and strengthening our collaboration in order to provide reliable and long-lasting solutions for the global market."

Allison is able to meet the stringent requirements of Chinese mining truck manufacturers for maneuverability and stability due to the superior driving performance of its products on any terrain. This has led to the successful establishment of a wide array of long-term and firm partnerships.
