Allison Transmission Conducting Maintenance Training Across Japan

TOKYO, August 8, 2024 – Allison Transmission is conducting maintenance training across Japan for mechanics and bus operators working with Allison transmissions for the first time. The seminars aim to support the increasing number of Allison-equipped vehicles in the country. Since the commencement of the program in January 2023, 28 of the seminars have been held.

The training is hosted jointly by Allison Japan and Allison Authorized Dealers. Using actual vehicles, they cover the design and features of fully automatic transmissions, how to perform daily inspections and maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures. The need for regular replacement of transmission fluid and filters is emphasized, in particular the use of genuine TES 668® Approved Fluids.

"We heard from other bus operators about the advantages of Allison automatic transmissions, including their smooth shifting and high performance, and how this reduces stress for drivers,” said Kazuo Okazaki, Deputy General Manager of the Transportation Safety Department of Fukushima Kotsu Corporation, which introduced the first new medium-sized city bus equipped with an Allison transmission in August 2023. “We decided to hold a maintenance seminar jointly with Sanshin Seiki Kogyo, an Allison Authorized Dealer in Koriyama, to deepen our understanding of regular maintenance procedures that we can perform on our own. Having a service location close to us is also reassuring."

“These maintenance seminars improve understanding of Allison's products and help build a sustainable society by facilitating their long-term use. Automatic transmissions also help reduce total maintenance costs over the long term by eliminating the need for clutch replacement,” said Yasuhiro Tsukahara, Manager of the Vehicle Maintenance Section at Fukushima Kotsu Koriyama branch office.

As of May 2024, there were 57 Allison-certified service mechanics nationwide, approximately 3 times as many as 10 years ago. With the growing number of commercial vehicles in Japan equipped with Allison products and in response to the corresponding demand for maintenance and overhaul services, Allison will continue to expand the number of Allison Authorized Dealer locations in Japan and increase the number of certified mechanics in order to provide even better service to customers.
