Sterki and Allison Transmission Mark 50 Years of Integrated Propulsion Solutions Partnership

Acting as the link between drive manufacturers, OEMs and end users, Sterki coordinates Allison customer service and supports all Allison transmission series. Hand over of the 50-year partnership certificate by Torsten Troebs, Customer Support & Channel Development Manager at Allison Transmission, (left) to Silvio Walser, Head of Sales and Aftersales at Sterki AG, (on the right).

In 1973, Sterki AG became an Allison Authorized Dealer and Distributor and has since provided comprehensive customer service and technical support to ensure reliable product and customer support in Switzerland. From 9000 Series™ transmissions for dump trucks in Valais, 3000 Series™ transmissions for municipal vehicles in Zurich, 4000 Series™ transmissions for all-terrain cranes in Graubünden to hybrid systems for city buses in Geneva, Sterki has played a role in almost every Allison transmission application in Switzerland.

WOLFHAUSEN, Switzerland, February 2024 Established in 1967 as a one-man business by Arnold Sterki, the company initially focused on the repair and overhaul of diesel engines and commercial vehicles. In 1972, the company was transformed into a public limited company. As early as 1973, Sterki became an authorized dealer of Allison Transmission (at that time General Motors Detroit Diesel). In 1984, the cooperation furthered as Sterki took over servicing all of Switzerland. One of Sterki's specialties at the time was "regearing", the conversion of trucks with manual transmissions to Allison fully automatic transmissions. The founder of the company, Arnold Sterki, is considered a pioneer of regearing in Europe. Every truck brand had been equipped with an Allison transmission thanks to his efforts. By 2006, Sterki AG had converted over 1,000 vehicles for the Swiss market.

Sterki is one of Allison's longest-standing partners in Europe. In 2002, Reto Sterki, the son of the company’s founder, took over management of the company and focused on continuous expansion and internationalization. Today, Sterki AG operates from a 5,500 square meter site and employs a team of professionals, including technicians, electricians, mechanics, export and import specialists, salespeople, warehouse and freight forwarding specialists. Spacious and modern workshops provide an efficient working environment.

As an Allison Authorized Dealer and Distributor, Sterki AG manages sales and customer service activities in Switzerland from the Wolfhausen site and plays a key role in supporting Allison customers. Acting as the link between drive manufacturers, OEMs and end users, Sterki coordinates Allison customer service and supports all Allison transmission series. As well as offering new products, Sterki also has an extensive stock of spare parts. Furthermore, transmissions are repaired or overhauled as replacement transmissions. Finally, each repaired transmission undergoes a final inspection at Sterki's own testing facilities.

"We are the extended arm of Allison Transmission, so to speak, and the satisfaction of our mutual customers is our top priority. It's fair to say that our entire team is passionate about what they do," said Reto Sterki, Owner and Managing Director of Sterki AG.

Standard components are not always the best solution for the planned application. Therefore, Sterki can offer its customers highly customized solutions, ranging from the planning of complete drive concepts to the development of prototypes. Tailor-made propulsion solutions or even complete power packs consisting of motor, transmission and Power Take-Off (PTO) are developed to meet specific customer requirements. Sterki also specializes in PTOs and hydraulically powered generator systems. This involves full integration of the generator systems and PTOs, as well as the installation of all hydraulic components for cooling and control, up to the electrical wiring. In addition, Sterki provides tailored solutions for PTOs, including the development of completely new systems.

"The Sterki team is extremely knowledgeable about our transmissions and they know exactly how to get the maximum performance and service life out of them,” said Torsten Troebs, Customer Support & Channel Development Manager at Allison Transmission. “Being able to work with such an experienced and motivated team is a great advantage. There is mutual trust and there is no issue for which we cannot find a solution together."

Allison fully automatic transmissions are used in a wide variety of applications, such as trucks, buses, defense vehicles and specialty applications. A global network of Allison Authorized Dealers and Distributors offers maintenance, transmission repair and spare parts service. They support vehicle manufacturers with specialized applications and offer training on Allison fully automatic transmissions and hybrid systems.

With their patented torque converter and continuous power shifting, Allison fully automatic transmissions offer ideal performance profiles for a wide range of demanding applications. The torque converter multiplies engine torque during start-up and acceleration. Furthermore, it protects the entire driveline from jolts and vibrations that would occur during manual gear shifting. The precise crawling speed and exact tuning facilitate operation at extremely low speeds. Allison fully automatic transmissions provide seamless, uninterrupted power, resulting in increased average speeds, higher productivity and driving comfort.

Drawing on decades of expertise and commitment, Sterki continues to support Allison customers in Switzerland with high-quality drive solutions. The partnership between Sterki and Allison remains strong and promising moving forward.
