SEOUL, South Korea, June 23, 2023 – Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions for commercial and defense vehicles, announced today that more than 5,000 Allison-equipped Hyundai County vehicles have been sold over the last 10 years since its August 2013 launch.

Hyundai County, a representative model in the 7-meter class of the Korean light-duty bus market, is used for a variety of applications, including tourism, school transportation and city buses. The County automatic vehicle is equipped with Allison’s T1000 xFE™ transmission. With more than 100 years of history and experience, Allison provides commercial vehicle manufacturers with fully automatic transmissions that deliver superior driving comfort, durability, productivity, economy, reliability and fuel efficiency.

"We are deeply grateful to County customers for their unwavering trust in Allison Automatics over the past decade," said Kyoungmee Lee, Regional Director of Allison Transmission Korea. "Demand for automatic vehicles has increased significantly in recent years as they reduce driver fatigue and maintenance costs with high productivity and durability."

Allison Transmission supplied 100 units of fully automatic transmissions to Hyundai Motor Company for the Hyundai County in 2013 and has increased its supply volume each year. Allison expects to supply more than 1,000 units in 2023. Currently, Allison Automatics in newly-registered County vehicles accounts for around 60 percent this year.

While vehicles with manual and automated manual transmissions (AMTs) initially cost less than trucks equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions, they may actually cost more over time. Allison Automatics have no mechanical clutch and the only regular maintenance required consists of routine oil and filter changes. They also reduce driver fatigue by eliminating the need to shift a gear and a clutch. Allison Automatics provide optimum gear-shifting based on the vehicle occupancy and environmental parameters, delivering improved fuel economy while maintaining peak performance under all driving conditions. In addition, there is no power interrupt during shifting.

Allison recently held a customer event in Wirey New Town, Gyeonggi Province, to present a gift to the customer purchasing the 5000th Allison-equipped Hyundai County, Byung-gi Choi, who drives the Hyundai County for commuting office workers and English kindergarten students. He bought his first County automatic vehicle in October 2013 and has purchased a total of five County automatic vehicles since then. He currently operates an Allison-equipped County purchased in April 2023.

"I’m very satisfied with the automatic vehicle because I don’t feel much fatigue even though I drive more than 200 kilometers a day on average," said Choi, Senior Director, Clover Trans Tour. "Allison fully automatic transmissions are getting a lot of interest from light-duty bus drivers, because they are good at productivity, durability and economy."
