Allison Transmission and LiuGong Forge Winning Partnerships with Indonesian Mining Companies

JAKARTA, Indonesia, March 15, 2024 – Allison Transmission, a global leader in manufacturing conventional, electric hybrid and fully electric vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest producer of fully automatic transmissions for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, is contributing to the success of Indonesian mining companies in harnessing the power of LiuGong DW90A wide-body dump trucks (WBDT) equipped with Allison Wide Body Dump (WBD) Series™ transmissions.

LiuGong, a major player in the Chinese and international construction machinery industry, has significantly expanded its export operations in Indonesia in recent years to meet the country's growing infrastructure and construction demands. Its DW90A WBDT is designed to carry a maximum payload of 60 tonnes, with a body capacity rated at 32 cubic meters. This formidable vehicle is powered by a 382-kilowatt Yuchai diesel engine and an Allison 4800 WBD fully automatic transmission, boasting an output rating of 2,400 newton-meters torque.

Since early 2021, LiuGong initiated bulk deliveries of its DW90A WBDT to  Indonesian customers including those in North Sulawesi. These trucks swiftly became a game-changer, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and quickly winning the favor of mining professionals in the area.

"Despite the challenging weather conditions in Indonesia, the LiuGong DW90A equipped with Allison 4800 WBD transmissions has consistently exceeded our customers’ expectations at local sites with harsh working conditions, thanks to the enhanced productivity and reliability, reduced capital expenditure and lower operating costs," said Sahdan Fikri, Head of Parts, PT LiuGong Machinery Indonesia.

Nestled along the equator,   North   Sulawesi,   Indonesia is known for its tropical climate, mountainous terrains, and abundant mineral wealth, encompassing gold, nickel, copper, and coal. In this region, mining activities in locations such as   Bakan and   Likupang have become indispensable industries, acting as cornerstones for the local economy.

The Allison 4800 WBD transmission is equipped with an engine-driven Power Take-Off (PTO) and a hydraulic retarder, enhancing its braking capabilities, which is crucial for off-road heavy-duty operations. The transmission incorporates   Allison's patented   Continuous Power Technology™, featuring a hydraulic torque converter that efficiently multiplies peak engine torque. This innovation results in more power delivered to the wheels compared to other transmission technologies, ensuring optimal drivability for demanding off-road conditions.

"For more than 65 years, Allison fully automatic transmissions have excelled in transporting coal, precious metals, aggregates, and more, even in the most demanding conditions, such as steep terrain," said Brian Geiselhart, Executive Director of Asia Pacific Sales, Allison Transmission. "Our enduring partnership with LiuGong in delivering wide-body dump trucks on a global scale has been a resounding success, and I am thrilled that our achievements are extending into the Indonesian market. We remain committed to our collaboration, as we work together to achieve outstanding results for our customers within this rapidly growing market."
