Allison Transmission is the Premium Choice for New IRUM Forestry Tractor

Allison Transmission has been chosen to supply a premium-option fully automatic transmission for the all-new IRUM TAF 690 S5 forestry tractor.

REGHIN, Romania, June 20th 2023 – Allison Transmission has been chosen to supply a premium-option fully automatic transmission for the all-new IRUM TAF 690 S5 forestry tractor. The model makes its debut at the Euroforest show in Saint-Bonnet-de-Joux, France from June 22-24, 2023.

IRUM is a leading manufacturer of forestry and farming equipment in Romania. Having consolidated its position in the domestic market, it is now expanding across the globe, with the new TAF 690 S5 forestry tractor playing a key role. Already present in Europe and South America, the company will launch export sales into the United States market in 2023.

Designed primarily to transport round timber from felling-sites to roadheads, the TAF 690 S5 is powered by a four-cylinder, 3.6-liter, 100 kilowatt Perkins engine that meets all applicable current emissions regulations, as well as offering 43% more power and 40% higher torque than the engine in the predecessor model.

IRUM estimates that 50% of export production will be fitted with the Allison 2500 fully automatic transmission, as a powershift transmission with torque-convertor lock-up is regarded as essential in many markets.

Trials of the Allison transmission were conducted with several forestry companies working in the vicinity of IRUM’s plant in the Gurghiu and Mures Valleys of Transylvania, with the support of K&W Drive Systems, an Allison Authorized Distributor in Austria and Romania.

“It was important to our engineering team to test the TAF 690 S5 with the Allison transmission with a variety of local operators. Although our customers work in the same natural landscape, what is different is the applications for the machine, with some operators having the tendency to protect the machine, while others focused on productivity,” said Cosmin Rus, Project Manager at IRUM. “In all applications, we became convinced that the Allison was a premium option for our customers, supporting the durability credentials of the tractor and ensuring reduced downtime.”

Allison has delivered several automatic transmissions to IRUM for fitment to the TAF 690 S5 models to be displayed at Euroforest.
