Allison Transmission Celebrates 100,000th 1000/2000 Series Transmission Shipped From Chennai

TOKYO, July 31, 2024 - produced at the Chennai plant was shipped from Aska Technos Co., Ltd., an Allison distributor on June 25 to be installed on Isuzu's F-Series for the Australian market. – Allison Transmission celebrated its 100,000th Allison 1000/2000 Series fully automatic transmissions produced at the company’s plant in Chennai, India, one of three Allison manufacturing sites around the world. At a recent ceremony, Heidi K. Schutte, Vice President of EMEA, APAC and South America Sales, Allison Transmission, and Brian Geiselhart, Executive Director of Asia Pacific Sales, Allison Transmission presented a scaled replica of the Allison 1000/2000 Series transmission to Akira Kamijo, Senior Executive Officer, Purchasing Division, Isuzu Motors Ltd., to commemorate the shipping of the 100,000th unit from the Chennai plant.

"For many years, Allison Japan has delivered fully automatic transmissions for medium and large city buses and also trucks for the Ministry of Defense in the domestic market as well as in trucks supplied for export, primarily to the Australian market,” said Kamijo. “In the domestic bus market, smooth shift changes are a key attraction for drivers; in overseas markets, as the number of drivers driving manual transmissions declines, two-pedal operation is becoming more common, and fully automatic transmissions are becoming more widespread.”

"The first Allison-equipped vehicle in the Japanese market was the Forward SBR, a medium-duty truck manufactured by Isuzu Motors, which adopted the AT540 in May 1974. Since then, we have been providing our products for trucks and buses in Japan and overseas and have established a strong partnership with Isuzu Motors,” said Schutte. In addition to the amplification of starting torque by the torque converter, Allison fully automatic transmissions, which deliver powerful driving performance while ensuring smooth shift changes with Continuous Power Technology™, are gaining prominence in today's world where downsized engines are the norm.”
