Hyundai Mighty Trucks Equipped with Allison Fully Automatic Transmissions Increase the Values of Oil Tank Lorries

Korean gas station owners are increasingly more likely to operate Hyundai Mighty trucks equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions due to driving convenience, economic feasibility, durability and reliability

SEOUL, South Korea, September 2021 — Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions for commercial and defense vehicles, announced that the owners of gas stations have increased their selection of Hyundai Mighty trucks equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions.

According to Allison Transmission, approximately 20 Hyundai Mighty automatic trucks are being operated as oil tank lorries in Korea. Since the Seo-il gas station located in Incheon purchased a Hyundai Mighty automatic truck as its oil tank lorry in August last year, the number of units sold for Hyundai Mighty tank lorries has continually increased.

Safety, durability and productivity are required for the tank lorry truck because its loads are highly flammable oil, diesel and kerosene, and is driven on urban streets and the highway. In general, owners of gas stations drive the tank lorry back and forth between gas storage facilities and the station. They also use the tank lorry when they supply the energy sources to individual customers such as homes and stores. For this reason, driving fatigue, fuel efficiency and economic feasibility are also important for the purchase of a tank lorry.

Trucks equipped with Allison Automatics are widely adopted for the tank lorry because the fully automatic transmission enables the vehicle to shift smoothly and provide outstanding productivity and durability without any power loss. In addition, the clutch and gear operation are not required, making it easier to operate, and the driver's fatigue is very low.

Lee Kwon-do, CEO of SK Korea Gas Station in Gimcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, purchased a Hyundai Mighty vehicle equipped with Allison's fully automatic transmission in July this year. He operates the truck as a tank lorry to store and deliver oil. He emphasized that driving an automatic vehicle lowers his fatigue as well as increases driving convenience because he just needs to focus on driving instead of operating clutch and gear.

"I have been operating a gas station in Gimcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do since 2010. In the past, I operated vehicles equipped with manual transmission and it was really inconvenient," said Lee, CEO of SK Korea Gas Station. "On the other hand, the automatic vehicle is very easy to drive and I never get tired. That’s why I purchased the Hyundai Mighty automatic truck."

He highlighted that it is very easy to operate the PTO when the vehicle is stopped. Drivers need to operate the PTO when they use external power devices such as pumps. Drivers of manual vehicles have to operate the clutch when they use the PTO. However, drivers of automatic vehicles can operate the PTO when the vehicles stopped. In addition, they can operate the PTO using a wireless remote control.

He strongly recommends Hyundai Mighty automatic vehicles to his acquaintances who run gas stations because Allison fully automatic transmissions have a wide range of strengths.
