Transallison, a joint venture company between General Motors do Brasil and Moto Pecas, located in Sorocaba, Brazil, releases its first units of automatic transmission for commercial vehicles. Construction begins on the World Transmission Facility in Indianapolis.
Eighteen years after its first Ride and Drive demonstration fleet in 1971, Allison Transmission expands the exhibition outside the U.S. with a nine-nation tour that begins in Madrid, Spain, and ends in Edinburgh, Scotland.
