대한민국, 서울, 2020년 9월 2일 – 앨리슨 트랜스미션은 본사가 위치한 미국 인디애나주 인디애나폴리스에 연중 무휴로 전자동변속기를 장착한 상용차의 성능을 테스트할 수 있는 '차량 환경 테스트 센터(Vehicle Environment Test Center)'를 설립했다고 이날 밝혔다.
랜디 커크(Randy Kirk) 앨리슨 트랜스미션 제품 엔지니어링 및 프로그램 매니지먼트 담당 수석 부사장은 "차량 환경 테스트 센터는 새로운 제품 개발 기술 수준을 끌어올려 시장 출시 시기를 앞당기려는 앨리슨의 의지가 투영된 시설이다"며 "전통적인 상용차는 물론, 대체 연료 및 전기를 동력으로 사용하는 차량의 개발 속도가 빨라지고, 고객 및 파트너사들과 효율적으로 협업할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다"고 말했다.
5,600m2(6만 평방피트) 규모의 이 시설은 차량 성능을 점검할 수 있는 두 개의 실험실로 구성된다.
자동차 제조업체 및 연구기관은 극한의 온도, 경사도, 고도(최대 5,500m), 험로, 습도 등 다양한 주행 조건을 설정한 뒤 차량의 배출가스, 연비, 가속, 제동, 코너링, 소음 등을 평가할 수 있다.
또한, 영하 48도(°C)에서 영상 52도(°C)까지의 온도에서 차량 성능을 테스트할 수 있는 극저온 및 극고온 실험실이 마련됐다.
전자동변속기가 장착된 디젤 상용차는 물론, 대체 연료, 전기 하이브리드, 전기 및 수소 연료 전지 차량도 이 시설에서 성능 점검이 가능하다.
한편, 앨리슨 트랜스미션의 차량 환경 테스트 센터는 미국 중서부 지역의 유일한 상용차 성능 평가 시설이다. 자동차 제조업체, 대학, 연구기관 등 누구나 사전 신청 후 시설 이용이 가능하다.
