Isuzu Novociti Life, featuring an Allison transmission, displayed at Busworld Turkey

Allison Torqmatic® T 2100 fully automatic transmission delivers a variety of benefits, including ride comfort and fuel economy, for the 8-meter Midibus segment

Offering a smooth, comfortable ride for drivers and passengers alike, the Allison T 2100 Torqmatic®-equipped Isuzu Novociti Life was displayed at Busworld Turkey, April 19-21.

Allison T 2100 transmissions are designed for inner-city buses with power up to 172 kW (230 hp). Novociti Life is being offered with the T 2100 due to its ride comfort, fuel economy and lower operating costs. As with all Allison fully automatic transmissions, the T 2100 provides smooth, continuous and superior acceleration and enables full-powered shifts thanks to Allison’s Continuous Power Technology™.

“Our vehicle has been designed as low-floored with the purpose of encouraging elderly and disabled individuals to be more active in social life,” said Tuğrul Arıkan, director general of Anadolu Isuzu. “At this point, our first goal is to ensure passenger and driver comfort. Comfort is maximized with the Allison transmission’s almost insensible gearshifts.”

Increased savings

Arıkan said the second most important reason for choosing the Allison T 2100 was improved fuel economy and lower total operating costs.

Allison’s 5th generation electronic controls are engineered to match the new generation of global vehicle electronic architectures and for easy integration during vehicle assembly. The control system delivers optimal shift strategies for superior productivity and efficiency, in combination with software features that mitigate fuel consumption.

Using a torque converter, Allison transmissions require only periodic oil and filter changes to maintain optimal performance—eliminating costly and time-consuming clutch replacements as with manual- or automated manual transmissions (AMTs).

More comfortable

Traditionally, comfort is one of the most significant challenges in city transit. Allison automatics offer greater comfort for both the driver and passengers. Drivers enjoy the comfort of controlled and confident driving that Allison’s Continuous Power Technology provides.

“One of the most important factors in comfort is the operation of mechanical components that directly affect the vehicle’s suspension components,” said Arıkan. “With the gear ratios and smoother shifts, it is obvious that the automatic transmission is crucial in public transport. In this aspect, Allison has been our trusted and preferred brand of choice.”

Manufactured in Turkey

The partnership of Anadolu Group, Isuzu Motors and Itochu operates a factory near Istanbul, which recently began assembling the rear-engine Novociti Life. The Allison T 2100 will be standard on Novociti Life models offered for sale in European market.

“With our distributors, we are marketing our vehicles in almost 30 countries,” said Arıkan. “In 2020, we aim to increase this figure to 60 countries. Being one of the most important models in this context, Novociti Life will operate in many countries in Europe, as well as the Middle East.”
