Leading Sydney Providores Shift to Allison Transmissions for Deliveries

One of Sydney’s leading suppliers of fruit and vegetables to restaurants and eateries, Pro Bros Providores is switching its truck fleet to Hyundai Mighty light trucks, equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions, to ensure more efficient operation in the city’s busy and increasingly crowded traffic.

SYDNEY, Australia, March 2021 — Pro Bros Providores, one of the leading wholesalers of fruit and vegetables in the Sydney market, was one of the first fleets to purchase the new Allison- equipped Hyundai Mighty light trucks in Australia, with four trucks being added to the company’s operations in mid-2020.

The Allison-equipped Hyundais have proven so successful and popular with Pro Bros drivers, that the company’s managing director, Robert Robert has already committed to buying four more Hyundai Mighty Automatics in the next few months.

“The fact that the Hyundai was the only light-duty truck available with a fully automatic Allison transmission was a key factor in buying the Hyundais ahead of other brands,” said Robert. “The Hyundais have proven to be easy to drive, easy to maneuver, reliable and our drivers say they particularly like the automatics because there is less stress when they are in traffic every day.”

The Hyundai Mighty automatics replaced four manual-gearbox Japanese light trucks that were troublesome and more difficult to use on crowded city roads according to Robert.

“We have a fleet of 18 light trucks and our experience with the Allison Automatics in the Hyundais has convinced us to switch the entire fleet across to Hyundai Mighty automatics,” said Robert. “In fact our experience with the Hyundai automatics has resulted in about four or five other providores at the Sydney Produce Markets buying Hyundai automatics as well.”

The Hyundai Mighty light-duty truck comes equipped with an Allison 1000 xFE™, which offers improved launch performance, increased productivity, smoother shifting, easier operation and enhanced driver comfort, as compared to competitive manual and automated manual transmissions. It utilizes a patented torque converter for a launching device, which offers superior performance and eliminates the need for clutch replacements.

The Allison 1000 xFE™ is equipped with FuelSense® 2.0 with DynActive® Shifting. This innovative technology solution uses a unique set of software and electronic controls to deliver quantifiable fuel savings of up to six percent. Rather than relying on fixed points on a shift table, FuelSense® 2.0 uses a learning algorithm to continuously find the ideal balance of fuel economy and performance for the duty-cycle helping the vehicle operate more efficiently.

The Pro Bros Hyundais cover between 100 and 200 km per day around the Sydney metropolitan area, to distribute produce to restaurants, cafes, clubs and caterers all over the city. Leaving early in the morning means the trucks are often travelling in the middle of the morning rush hour and according to Robert that is where the Allison Automatics come into their own.

“The drivers tell me the automatics make that grind in the stop-start peak hour traffic so much easier to cope with, while they also make it easier in tight car parks and loading docks,” he said. “Safety is also a key factor for us and the Allison Automatics make it much safer for our drivers because they don’t have to worry about changing gears and can concentrate on steering the truck and staying out of dangerous situations.”
